UAE in tanker clampdown
The Federal Transport Authority in the United Arab Emirates has issued a circular stating that from this week all foreign flagged tankers carrying crude and products into the country must be less than 25 years old.
Furthermore, tankers coming into UAE waters must be double hulled and classed by members of the International Association of Classification Societies (lACS) or local class society TASNEEF.
UAE authorities have been clamping down on substandard operators in the past 12 months after the country received a lot of negative press for allowing many questionable owners to jettison their ships there.
