Tankers tipped to return to Libya’s Ras Lanuf

Officials at Libya’s National Oil Co are attempting to load oil at the eastern port of Ras Lanuf for the first time since 2014.

Both Ras Lanuf and neighboring Es Sider port came under enormous attacks last week from fighters belonging to Islamic State. The shelling of the two ports saw around seven oil storage tanks set ablaze.

Another attack took place at Zueitina port to the east of Ras Lanuf.

NOC has said Greek tanker Nassau Energy, owned by LL Energy, is coming to take on a cargo of crude at Ras Lanuf. It was waiting offshore until it gets the green light from officials that the security situation is okay.

A number of ships have been fired at – and some seafarers have even died – while trying to take on cargoes in Libya since the country descended into civil war more than five years ago.
