Tank cleaning under the spotlight off Fujairah
Tankers passing by the port of Fujairah in the UAE have been warned authorities are on the look out for any pollution. Following a spate of oil washing up on Fujairah’s shoreline in recent years local officials are calling for increased maritime surveillance to clamp down on the issue.
Speaking with The National, a local newspaper, the port’s general manager, Captain Mousa Murad said: “The recent spills have been caused by tank cleaning by passing ships. Especially when tankers change from one product to another.”
