Suez tugboat sinks following collision with gas carrier
One crewmember died after a Suez Canal tugboat sunk on Saturday having collided with the Chinagas Legend, an LPG carrier. Traffic along the waterway was briefly halted while salvors removed the tug’s wreck.
The Hong Kong-flagged gas carrier was unscathed in the incident and is currently at anchor as investigations get underway.
The collision took place around the 51 km point in the Al-Balah bypass.
The canal has had an eventful year in terms of the number of accidents with groundings in particular far more numerous than in previous years.
