Stena Impero on the move
Detained by Iran since July 19 the Stena Impero is finally on the move although the shipowner, Stena Bulk, has not yet heard officially from local authorities, nor the ship’s master, whether or not the vessel is now free to depart Iranian waters.
Satellite images from this morning show the ship has upped anchor from Bandar Abbas, however a spokesperson for Stena Bulk told Splash today that the company had not heard anything official as to whether the product carrier had been freed.
Over the weekend, Iranian politicians had intimated that the UK-flagged ship was about to be released.
Iran detained the ship while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, widely seen as retaliation for British armed forces taking an Iranian VLCC off Gibraltar 15 days prior.
