Simatech takes its largest ever ship on charter

Simatech has fixed the largest ship it has ever taken on charter. The Dubai line has taken the 8,814 teu Northern Jaguar from Hamburg’s Norddeutsche Reederei H. Schuldt for 10 to 12 months at $17,900 per day, according to Alphaliner.

The ship is likely to be deployed on an East Asia to India service which it operates along with Evergreen, TS Lines, K Line, Hapag-Lloyd, Yang Ming and PIL on which vessel capacities are being gradually upgraded from 5,500 to 8,000 teu.

The charter of the Northern Jaguar was heralded by Alphaliner in its latest weekly report as a “milestone” in the short history of the Middle Eastern carrier. The Lomar Shipping-controlled 6,039 teu Los Angeles Trader had been the largest ship on charter to Simatech previously.

Simatech currently operates a fleet of 18 container vessels. Its liner network connects its Middle East base to Asia as well as providing cabotage services in India.

The carrier recently signed with China’s Guangzou Wenchong shipyard for the construction of two 2,800 teu vessels.
