Shipping Corporation of India readies first Iran call since 2012
Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) will call at Iran this month after a four-year gap because of sanctions. It will deploy a suezmax for state-refiner Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Other Indian refiners including Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals have also signed deals recently for Iranian oil.
Currently most Iranian oil bound for India tends to arrive on Iranian vessels, but SCI is keen to take some of this market share.
SCI has also talked with Iranian authorities about resurrecting an old joint venture, Irano-Hind, which was put on hold during the sanctions period.
