MC Seamax pays $80m for two-year-old 9,000 teu ship
Tonnage provider MC Seamax has snapped up a UASC boxship with a decent charter to boot.
The American firm is paying $80m for the 2014-built, 9,034 teu UASC Umm Qasr. The deal for the Hyundai Samho-built ship includes a charter back at $39,500 a day through to early 2018.
UASC has been focusing on larger ships than the Umm Qasr of late, taking on a series of 18,000 teu ships. Its fleet will soon have to rationalise as it pushes ahead with a merger with Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd.
