Iranian LPG carrier catches fire
An Iranian LPG carrier caught fire yesterday in a blaze that quickly spread across the entire ship. TankerTrackers.com has been able to identify the ship as the Panama-flagged White Purl, a vessel that been spoofing over AIS at the time.
The accident happened off the coast of Assaluyeh in Iran. All 22 were rescued. Five tugs were deployed to try and quell the blaze.
The 12,058 cu m is 51 years old, making it one of the oldest gas carriers in the world. Iran has been hit hard by sanctions for many years with its merchant fleet ageing and struggling to ensure safety standards.
