Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) has appointed Ahmed Al-Abri as the new chief executive officer.
The Omani national and former chairman of Asyad Container Terminals and CEO of Asyad Ports brings over 25 years of experience to Bahrain-based ship repair and fabrication yard.
Tawfeeq AlMoayed, ASRY chairman of the board of directors, said: “We are naturally proud to have one of the most experienced and competent leaders rising up our executive management team.”
ASRY recently became part of a memorandum of understanding with Danish shipping and logistics group Maersk, SULB Company, and APM Terminals Bahrain to evaluate and establish a ship recycling initiative in Bahrain. The deal will see the kingdom’s transport and telecommunications ministry and the ministry of industry and commerce provide regulatory support to ASRY for equipping the yard and docks for the ship recycling process.
Commenting on his appointment, Al-Abri who also has three years of experience as deputy CEO at Oman Drydock Company, said in a social media post on LinkedIn: “The narrative now is straightforward: solidify our status of excellence, unleash the true potential of this great yard, and move forward to put our mark and footprint on the international scene.”
